Primary School

The aim of this module is to provide children in primary schools with the knowledge and skills for the prevention, preparedness, and response to natural disasters.

This e-learning module is divided in the following units:

This unit will provide children in primary schools with the knowledge and skills for the prevention, preparedness and response to a flood.

This unit will provide children in primary schools with the knowledge and skills for the prevention, preparedness and response to a storm.

This unit will provide children in primary schools with the knowledge and skills for the prevention, preparedness and response to a heat wave situation.

This unit will provide children in primary schools with the knowledge and skills for the prevention, preparedness and response to a wildfire.

Each Unit is divided in 3 parts:

Part 1: Prevention
The need to be aware of what happens during a natural disaster and what risks and impacts there may be.

Part 2: Preparedness
The need to be aware of how to prepare for a natural disaster. What information do they need? Where can they find this information? What preparations can help them react safely and effectively during a natural disaster?

Part 3: Response
A- Who will help?
The need to know what organisations/people will be involved in responding to a natural disaster and what each of these organisations/people will and will not do.
B- Safety
The need to know how to stay safe during a natural disaster. What should they do and what should they not do if there is a flood? For example, if flood water is entering a property and they cannot escape, they need to move to the top floor of the building.

Each unit is planned to be delivered in 1,5 hours. This entire e-learning module will therefore provide 6 hours of education on the prevention, preparedness and response to natural disasters to primary school children.
